About the Event

Following on from her publishing for Young Adults, Angie Thomas has launched a middle grade series full of magical fantasy and adventure, with real life events from American history woven into the spellbinding narrative. Nic Blake and the Remarkables has been praised as  “a thrilling magical world” by The Times and “Nothing short of a triumph” by Rick Riordan. Join her as she discusses the magic behind the story and finding inspiration in video games and films. 

Angie Thomas’ debut novel The Hate U Give was published to critical and commercial acclaim around the globe – it launched straight to No.1 on the New York Times bestseller list and was an Amazon No.1 bestseller, awarded the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize, British Book Awards’ Children’s Book of the Year and the Amnesty CILIP Honour for the Carnegie Medal

About the Author

Angie Thomas was born, raised and still resides in Mississippi as indicated by her accent. She is a former teen rapper whose greatest accomplishment was an article about her in Right-On Magazine with a picture included. She holds a BFA in Creative Writing from Belhaven University and an unofficial degree in Hip Hop. She can also still rap if needed. She is an inaugural winner of the Walter Dean Myers Grant 2015, awarded by We Need Diverse Books. The Hate U Give was adapted into a critically acclaimed film from Fox 2000, starring Amandla Stenberg and directed by George Tillman, Jr.
