About the Event

The Popcorn Bob series is a laugh out loud story about a popcorn kernel that sprouts a face, arms and legs and causes no end of trouble for his friend Ellis, who discovers him one evening in her garage (where she has gone to eat popcorn in secret!) The three books by award-winning Dutch author and illustrator team Maranke Rinck and Martijn van der Linden and translated into English by Nancy Forest-Flier, take us on adventures in the Netherlands, where they cause chaos and solve mysteries, then on to the USA where Ellis and Popcorn Bob are on a secret mission to free Popcorn Bob's family from the evil clutches of Coraline Corn.

Join this online event to enjoy Maranke Rinck reading from the hilarious stories and follow illustrator Martijn van der Linden who will teach you how to draw your own version of Popcorn Bob. Then you can have a go at creating and writing about your own corn kernel!

Be Prepared
During the event, Martijn will show you how to draw Popcorn Bob so you will need a pencil and paper. Martijn will also teach you how to create some popcorn characters so have some popcorn at the ready too!

Teacher Resources (Provided by School Library Association)

Our world is full of different people, different cultures, different histories, different lifestyles and every culture can help inform us of new, exciting opportunities, opening our eyes to how others live.

·       Discuss any travel you have experienced and differences you’ve found. It doesn’t have to be to another country; differences in the countryside to city life are apparent in e.g. transport links, leisure activities, public facilities, green spaces, etc.

These resources list the many ways in which our young people are helped through global education and provide thought-provoking help with lessons:
