Join David Wolstencroft for a journey to The Magic Hour! Discover all about the challenges of writing The Magic Hour, his highly-anticipated middle-grade debut novel which poses the question: what would you do with an extra hour in the day? Tune in for writing tips from one of the UK’s most successful screenwriters, listen to exclusive readings from the book, and receive a unique writing prompt to try in your classroom or at home.

About the Author

David Wolstencroft is a multi award winning screenwriter and author. After winning the RTS Best Newcomer Award for his first script, Psychos (Channel 4), he went on to create and write iconic BAFTA winning spy drama Spooks which ran for 10 seasons on BBC One. His other work includes Scottish BAFTA nominated legal thriller series The Escape Artist, starring David Tennant, and co creating epic drama Versailles (BBC). David is also the author of two bestselling adult thrillers, Good News and Bad News and Contact Zero (winner of Ian Fleming Silver Dagger award), both of which are currently in development as feature films. The Magic Hour is his debut Children's novel.

Create your own magical story You can take writing inspiration from anywhere! Thee picture below was taken by David Wolstencroft, author of the Magic Hour, in his home. Could it be a glimpse into a magical shadow world? What might you find there? Either using David’s picture or using shadows on your own walls, think about what might be happening in this magical world and who might be there. Thee Magic Hour is all about time, so give yourself 10 minutes to write down whatever comes to mind about your magical world in the space below

About the Festival Partner

This event has been programmed by Wigtown Book Festival.

Established in 1999, Wigtown Book Festival takes place each autumn in Scotland's National Book Town. The town, home to more than a dozen second hand and new bookshops, welcomes almost 30,000 visitors to the Festival which takes place over 10 days and presents almost 300 events for adults, young people and children.
