About the Event

In her local museum, a thousand invisible stories hide, waiting to be uncovered. What could one girl with a magical witch's stone discover amid the cabinets of curiosities. Award-winning Kenya-Scottish storyteller Mara Menzies takes the audience on a journey across continents and cultures and asks: how are we all connected, wherever we are in the world.

Our world is full of different people, different cultures, different histories, different lifestyles and every culture can help inform us of new, exciting opportunities, opening our eyes to how others live.

·       Discuss any travel you have experienced and differences you’ve found. It doesn’t have to be to another country; differences in the countryside to city life are apparent in e.g. transport links, leisure activities, public facilities, green spaces, etc.

Originally commissioned by Wigtown Book Festival, this event is supported by the Scottish Book Festivals Network, which brings together more than 50 book festivals across Scotland.

The Scottish Book Festivals Network was set up in 2020, on the request of Creative Scotland, to be a vehicle for providing knowledge sharing, networking, advocacy, collaborative working, as well as guidance on best practice across the spectrum of Scotland’s literary festivals. Festivals such as Wigtown Book Festival, Tidelines Book Festival, Edinburgh International Book Festival as well as Boswell Book Festival and Bloody Scotland are included as members of the Network.
