About the Event

Learn to draw Manga with the team at Saturday AM comics! Saturday AM are a collection of Manga artists from all over the world, with creators ranging from Europe and Asia to Africa and the USA, all with one mission: to create characters that reflect all readers, whatever race, gender or ethnicity. You’ll have drawing tutorials from overseas artists Whyt Manga (Nigeria)and Jey Odin (USA) who’ll be teaching you how to draw a range of incredible Manga characters!

Be Prepared
Get ready for LOTS of drawing in this event – you will need paper, a pencil and a rubber!

About the Authors/Illustrators

Saturday AM are a ground-breaking new Manga Comics Brand comprised of a diverse network of artists from all over the world. Saturday AM produce action-packed Manga comics with a focus on diversity and creating characters that reflect all readers, including black, LGBTQ+ and/or other culturally diverse characters.

Co-ordinate with your Art dept and have a go at drawing some manga characters

Discussion points for students:

·       Research the history and origin of Manga
o Look up the etymology of the word Manga
o It is of Japanese origin and can be split into Man and Ga
o Manga reads from right to left – so the opposite of books produced in the UK
o Take a look at the four main genres of Manga

·       Creators of manga are called Mangaka and each has their own unique style. Research some examples of Manga characters and take a look to see what your school library stocks.
